Problems connecting WhatsApp after two-factor authentication change

Meta changed WhatsApp's two-factor authentication: the old 6-digit PIN was replaced with an 8-character alphanumeric password.

🔐 What changed?

Meta updated WhatsApp two-factor authentication.

Previously, a 6-digit PIN was used.

Now, the new authentication requires an 8-character alphanumeric password; that is, it can contain letters and numbers.

This change may cause issues when connecting WhatsApp to the CRM.

DETAILS: The Coexistence connection is in BETA BY META, it may present instabilities and this is especially more true when changes like this PIN change occur.

📱 How to troubleshoot connection issues

If you have difficulty connecting:

  1. Open WhatsApp Business on your mobile phone.

  2. Access Settings.

  3. Go to Account.

  4. Access Two-factor authentication.

  5. Disable two-factor authentication.

  6. Wait approximately 5 minutes.

Then, go back to the CRM and connect again.

🔗 Connect WhatsApp again

During the connection:

  • If this number is already in the CRM and you only need to reconnect it or it is already in META, select your WhatsApp number; or

  • IF the selection of your number is disabled saying it is not qualified, type your number and proceed, it may be enabled, this unqualified error on this screen appears to be a META BUG. (See my attached video to understand better) or

  • Choose Connect a WhatsApp Business app.

Then, follow the instructions displayed on the screen.

⚙ CRM Configuration

In the CRM:

  • In the PIN field, if it is a new connection you can leave it blank and we create by default 123456. And if you are editing a connection, make sure it is filled in, it can also be keeping the default 123456.

  • Configure the connection name.

  • Make sure the three pieces of information below are filled in (phoneNumberId, Waba ID and Phone number), if they are not, log in again with Facebook.
    Click Finish to save.

✅ Done! Wait for the connection to be completed.
Perform send and receive tests as well as sending already approved templates to ensure full operability of the connection.
